Once the floor repair is done, it’s time for the cushion floor (CF) finishing. Then comes the IH cooktop, followed by the big one u2014 the built-in dishwasher installation. Installing a dishwasher is one of the most advanced appliance DIY tasks out there.

Kitchen Faucets
A faucet upgrade is the single highest-impact kitchen DIY per yen spent.
Kitchen CF laying requires many cut-outs u2014 for the drain, dishwasher opening, and cooktop area. The key is taking careful paper templates.
CF Laying Steps
- Make a paper template (using scrap CF or cardboard) to measure the floor shape
- For openings (drain, etc.): cut slightly small, then expand on-site
- Apply double-sided tape for flooring to the subfloor (full coverage is ideal)
- Position the CF and press down
- Roll out air pockets while pressing firmly
- Install baseboard and trim pieces to finish
Choose CF with water and oil resistance for kitchen use. Renovation-type CF has a thin backing and is easy to apply over existing flooring. m(_ _)m
IH Cooktop Installation
Switching from gas to IH requires closing the gas line and running a dedicated 200V power supply.
- IH cooktops require a dedicated 200V circuit (requires a licensed electrician)
- Gas line closure must be done by the gas company (never DIY)
- Confirm the existing cooktop opening matches the IH cooktop dimensions
- Confirm the countertop cut dimensions too
DIY Dad uses gas or IH depending on the property, since installing IH prevents tenants who can’t cook without gas from moving in.

This is the highest-difficulty kitchen DIY task u2014 involving cabinet opening, water supply, drainage, and power supply all at once.
Required Work
- Cabinet opening (create the space for the dishwasher)
- Water supply branch (branch connector from the stop valve)
- Drain connection (connect to sink drain trap)
- Dedicated power outlet (100V)
- Unit insertion and leveling
- Front panel fitting
- Test run (leak check)
