Once the floor repairs were done, it was time to lay the cushion floor finish. After that came the IH cooktop installation, and finally the big project: fitting the built-in dishwasher. Installing a dishwasher is one of the most advanced tasks in kitchen DIY. ^ ^

Kitchen Faucets
A faucet upgrade is the single highest-impact kitchen DIY per yen spent.
Kitchen CF work involves many cutouts u2014 around drains, the dishwasher opening, and the cooktop area u2014 which takes time. The secret is careful templating.
CF Installation Steps
- u2460 Measure the floor shape using template material (scrap CF or cardboard)
- u2461 Cut openings slightly smaller, then trim to fit on-site
- u2462 Apply double-sided flooring tape to the substrate
- u2463 Position the CF, then press down evenly
- u2464 Roll out air bubbles with a flooring roller
- u2465 Install base molding and transition strips to finish
Choose a water- and oil-resistant CF for kitchens. Renovation-grade CF has a thin backing and is easier to lay over an existing floor.
Now to the Step-by-Step u2014 Transition Strip Finishing
Hi, it’s DIY Dad! ^ ^
Today is the end of the coldest season. Tomorrow marks the start of spring u2014 finally! ^ ^
Continuing with the 1F kitchen renovation. The cushion floor has been laid. But right now there’s a small height difference where the CF ends u2014 equal to the CF thickness.

^ The step from another angle. Catching your foot on it actually hurts. >_<
I’ll cover the step with a transition strip. The strip is glued down with wood glue. Since I can’t position it precisely while it’s sliding around, I hold it in place with masking tape while the glue sets.

^ Transition strip in place. It’s a little rough around the edges, but overall it looks pretty good. ^ ^

Visiting a showroom to see the real thing in person helps avoid the “this isn’t what I expected” problem. Most showrooms are free to visit, so make good use of them. ^ ^
