A wood deck is a wooden platform installed outside the home u2014 in the garden, on a terrace, or as a balcony extension. It bridges the living room and the garden, expanding usable living space.

- BBQ space

- Laundry drying area
- Sunny spot for pets
For a rental property, a wood deck is a rare amenity and a strong selling point. DIY Dad decided to install one at his owner-occupied rental property.
Key Decisions When Planning a Wood Deck

- Location of buried utility pipes
Matching the deck surface height to the interior door sill creates a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

Finally, the weekend! Today the cherry blossoms are drawing crowds across Japan. DIY Dad is working, though. The plan is to catch the blossoms on Sunday u2014 fingers crossed the weather holds.
Continuing the wood deck series. How big will this deck actually be? First step: sketch the installation space.
I sketched the area by hand u2014 rough plans, like comic-book diagrams. Once the basic shape was roughed in, I took measurements with a tape measure and noted the dimensions.
